Hearing Health Magazine Submission Guidelines

Original, unsolicited manuscripts, art and photos are welcome and will be given careful consideration by Hearing Health’s editorial staff. Before sending us your submission, please use the following guidelines to determine whether it would be of value to our readers.

All submissions to Hearing Health should reflect the publication’s mission: to raise awareness of real-world applications of hearing-related research, technology and trends and to educate people about the effects of hearing loss on health and quality of life.

The following are among the broad topic areas of interest to our consumer-based readership: access; research involving the auditory system; managing hearing loss, tinnitus and balance disorders; hearing aid technology; cochlear implants; assistive listening devices; personal interest and success stories; education; disability rights and advocacy.

1. Features: 500-1,500 words

Important points about our editorial style
1. Follow Associated Press Stylebook.
2. Be concise.
3. Use subheads, if appropriate, to break up the article and keep the reader engaged.
4. Explain medical, scientific and technical terms in a way that is clear to lay readers.
5. Include a brief (2-3 sentences) biographical description of author at the end of article that gives title, affiliation, relevant credentials and research or personal interests.

Submitting an article
Preferred: Send manuscript electronically to info@drf.org Include description of photographs, illustrations or other visual images available for use with the article. Images must be clearly relevant to the article’s subject and of high-resolution (at least 300 dpi) as well as include captions and credit information.

Alternate methods: mail a diskette or cd with electronic files of manuscript to Hearing Health, 641 Lexington Avenue, 15th Floor, New York NY 10022, or fax to 212-329-9484.
Hearing Health requires exclusive print and electronic rights for original articles. We also request indefinite archival rights. For articles reprinted with permission, we require nonexclusive electronic, print and archival rights. Articles appearing in Hearing Health or on www.hearinghealthmag.com may be reprinted only with our permission.

Compensation
Because Hearing Health is a publication of Deafness Research Foundation, a charitable, nonprofit organization, we only accept submissions that are freely donated for publication and do not provide monetary compensation for submissions. Contributors receive complimentary copies of the issue that includes their submission.
