Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy of the Deafness Research Foundation
The Deafness Research Foundation is concerned about protecting the privacy of our donors and constituents on the Internet, on our web site, and in our office. We have established the following guidelines to explain the ways in which we use information gathered from visitors to our Web site. Periodically, these guidelines may by changed or updated. Please contact our office to receive this policy by mail.

Information that the Deafness Research Foundation collects

In general, anyone can visit our internet site and access published information while remaining anonymous and not revealing any personal information. At our site, we do not collect personally identifiable information from individuals unless they provide it to us knowingly and voluntarily. Our website does, however, collect the IP addresses of those who visit the site, but this information is not shared with anyone outside of the Foundation, and our web hosting providers (who do not use the information in any way). Visitors are not required to register or provide information to us in order to view anything on our web site. The Deafness Research Foundation only gathers personally identifiable data, such as names, addresses, zip/postal codes, e-mail addresses, etc. when voluntarily submitted by a visitor.

Reasons for voluntary submission of information include signing up for our Hearing Health Magazine and email/newsletter list, submitting an online conference abstract for consideration, registering for an event, purchasing items online, donating online, or requesting additional information. Any personally identifiable data submitted by a visitor is used solely by The Deafness Research Foundation for internal purposes. Except for the reasons listed below, this information is never shared with third parties. The DRF will never sell, rent or give personal information to unaffiliated third parties for marketing purposes. We will only share personally identifiable information with third parties when (a) the person submitting the information authorizes us to share it; (b) sharing the information is necessary to the operation of the site or the Foundation, such as in the case of sending DRF mail, or (c) we are required to do so by law.

When you send a donation in honor or in memory of someone and request that an acknowledgment be sent to another individual or a family, we will use the name and address of that individual or family for acknowledgment purposes only.

How the Deafness Research Foundation protects your personal information:
We maintain commercially reasonable physical, electronic, and administrative safeguards to protect your personal information from unauthorized or inappropriate access. Personal contact information is not shared with any organization outside of the DRF and our agents (reputable companies we use for services, such as sending DRF mail, and our financial team of accountants and auditors).

Links to other web sites

Our Web site contains links to other non-DRF web sites. Although we try to link only to Web sites that share our concern for customer information privacy, we are not responsible for their content, security or privacy practices. This Web site will, on occasion, use a secure third-party website for event registration and abstract submissions. If you are not comfortable using a third-party site to register for an event or submit an online abstract, please contact the DRF office to make alternative arrangements. The Deafness Research Foundation uses PayPal to accept credit card donations. PayPal has an extensive privacy policy on their website, www.paypal.com. Please review the applicable privacy statements of PayPal or any other Web site before providing any site with personally identifiable information. Those who wish to make a donation without using a credit card should contact our office to learn about other options.

Cookies

Other than the specific instances outlined in this policy, the Foundation does not collect personal information about users or how individuals use the site. The Foundation also does not use the information-tracking devices made possible through "cookies," small pieces of data that may be sent to your Web browser from a server and stored on your computer's hard drive.

How to update personal information

You may review and update the information that you provide to us through this Web site by contacting us. You may always contact us to remove your personal information from our general mailing list, Hearing Health Magazine mailing list, or email list at any time.
